Position Summary
Basler Inc. is seeking an experienced, results-driven Controller to lead all aspects of financial accounting, reporting directly to the Managing Director. Basler Inc. is the US-based subsidiary of a German machine vision technology company, responsible for the North and South American region. This manager role oversees one Accounting Assistant and will be supported by the larger central Controlling organization of the parent company in Germany, Basler AG. Job Responsibilities
As the Controller for Basler Inc., you will collaborate with the headquarters Controlling team to develop and implement key financial accounting tasks and strategies ensuring compliance and alignment with our organizational goals. Your core responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- General Ledger Accounting: Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly or quarterly basis, reconcile banks accounts, track sales commissions, manage month end closing by posting all necessary journal entries (accruals, adjusting entries, reclassifications, etc.) on a timely basis in order to meet deadlines as defined by parent company, post intercompany invoices and journal entries, prepare and review monthly trial balance
- Accounts Payable: Manage and supervise accounting assistant to ensure AP tasks are completed including: voucher and post vendor invoices, manage and post employee expense reports, reconcile and post 3rd party commission amounts, prepare and post intercompany invoices, payment processing of checks and wire transfers, reconcile and monitor U.S. Customs duties payments to ensure accuracy
- Accounts Receivable: Manage and supervise accounting assistant to ensure AR tasks are completed including: managing and posting customer payments as received (checks, credit card, or EFT), deposit paper checks via remote deposit or at local bank branch, reconcile credit card payments and credit processing fees, prepare AR aging reports and ensure prompt collection of accounts receivable
- Payroll: Prepare semi-monthly payroll for all employees using services of payroll processors, reconcile and post payroll to SAP, reconcile Flexible Spending Account (FSA/Section 125), ensure the timely filing of Paychex prepared 401k annual reports
- Credit Management: Approve payment terms and credit limits based on review of customer supplied credit references, internet research, feedback from sales department, and when required, D&B reports, responsible for managing A/R and obtaining the cooperation and involvement of other Basler Inc. parties if necessary to pursue overdue receivables, obtaining and working with outside collections agencies when warranted
- Annual Budgeting and Financial Reporting: The controller will assist management in completing annual revenue and expense budgeting and provide financial status reports for senior managers to help monitor performance against budget and assess operational efficiency.
- Financial Procedures and Policies: Assist headquarters Controlling team in enforcing corporate financial controls and guidelines as well as developing, implementing, and maintaining any local financial controls and guidelines.
- Statutory Financial Statements and Year-End Closing: Under the guidance of Headquarters Controlling team and external partners, prepare and support the preparation of statutory financial statements in accordance with local GAAP requirements, coordinate and support external audits, and ensure timely completion of year-end audit and closing activities in close alignment with headquarters group reporting timelines.
- IFRS Reporting and Group Reporting Support: Prepare, review, and submit IFRS reporting packages to the parent company in accordance with group accounting policies and reporting deadlines; ensure data accuracy, completeness, and reconciliation between local GAAP and IFRS figures; act as key contact for headquarters Controlling and Group Accounting teams and actively support the consolidated group reporting process.
- Other Administrative and Financial Responsibilities: Manage liquidity accounts, maintain a working filing system for financial records, internal controls, data protection/security, budget and variance and other financial analysis as needed, maintain relationships and interact with vendors like leasing companies, building landlord, and outsourced functions including insurance providers, accounting firm, benefits broker, payroll processor, assist management in evaluating methods for cost reduction and efficiency improvement (i.e. phone rates, insurance rates, travel costs, etc.), assist Legal team in maintaining current contract database with relevant Basler Inc. contracts
Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field
- 5+ years of full-time experience as controller, accounting manager, or similar bookkeeping role, including at least 1-2 years as a supervisor
- Proficiency in financial and accounting concepts and practices with a foundation in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office Suite with strong expertise in Excel and Word, as well as experience with accounting software and ABC general ledgers.
- Deep analytical skills with particular attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills: ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and maintain flexibility including the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax compliance and reporting
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally (<10%), including within the region and occasional visits to company headquarters in Germany.
