Position Description 
The Logistics Field Application Engineer – is a highly technical machine vision consultant tasked with supporting successful and profitable projects within the logistics market vertical. Advanced knowledge of vision systems is required to recommend appropriate hardware & software to ensure the success of new & existing projects. Strong proven background in the areas of computer vision, electronic design, FPGA/SoC programming, image processing software, and related computer sciences is required. A drive to communicate & collaborate with multiple external engineering teams is the key to success within this role. Hands-on experience with developing & supporting complete vision solutions within the logistics space is preferred. Knowledge of logistics-based/warehousing vision applications including pick & place, barcode reading & palletization is also preferred. 

This position reports to the Sales Manager, Logistics Americas – Basler Inc.

Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure the successful development and optimal integration of Vision Solutions for customers through close collaboration with various organizations within Basler such as the CP, R&D & Software teams.
  • Ensure customer project success through frequent collaboration with all known vision teams.
  • Provide on-demand support to all logistics customers. 25-30% travel to various customer sites is required for this role. 
  • Assist the Key Account Manager & Sales Manager in determining the required resource allocation for each customer project.
  • Collaborate with the customer’s vision teams to draft proposals & Statements of Work (SOW) as needed. 
  • Fully define the entire project scope, including goals, needs-behind-the-needs, risks, and feasibility.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all of Basler’s vision products with extensive  knowledge for every line offered. 
  • Serve as a primary technical support resource for all logistics-based support cases.
  • Perform related engineering work as needed for customers (prototyping, proof-of-concept, lab testing, etc.).
  • Track project/program status and support cases using Confluence, Salesforce.com, Jira, and  SAP.
  • Recognize and report new opportunities to the dedicated Account Manager. 
  • Recognize and report logistics market trends & needs to BS & Basler’s Product Market Management (PMM).
  • Collaborate with the Basler team to develop business strategies and tactics focused on driving new business within the logistics market vertical.
  • Attend all logistics-related weekly & bi-weekly sync meetings, along with initial discussions for new vision projects.
  • Keep abreast of logistics related technologies, products, and trends.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge & proficiency with all Basler products adequate to perform 1st level support.
  • Develop and lead external customer vision trainings as needed.
  • Contribute to technical marketing projects for customers such as application notes, webinars, training material, etc.
  • Attend all regular internal synchronization meetings with the Basler logistics team. 
  • Attend customer product roadmap presentations to provide an expert technical input.
  • Attend local and international Sales & Applications Engineering Meetings.
  • Follow all company guidelines related to processes, record-keeping, etc.

Qualifications

Technical Skills Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or related field.
  • 5 -10 years of professional experience in technical support and/or product development.
  • Strong project management skills and proven experience in managing complex customer projects.
  • Knowledge in the field of computer vision, 2D & 3D camera technologies, embedded processors, & vision software.
  • Extensive experience in using Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with and knowledge of software development practices.
  • Working proficiency in C++, C#, and Python programming.
  • Experience with and knowledge of edge processing technology, cloud connectivity, Amazon AWS.
  • Strong understanding of electronics concepts and familiarity with circuit analysis & components.
  • Strong desire to learn new technologies and grow engineering skillset.
 
Organizational Skills Required:
  • Programming skills in C++, C#, and .NET (proficiency in Python also acceptable).
  • Understanding of electronics concepts and familiarity with circuit analysis and components.
  • Project related experience with computer vision (CV), machine vision, embedded systems, and machine learning (AI/ML) is preferred.
  • Experience with 2D, Line Scan or, 3D cameras is preferred.
  • Knowledge or hands on experience with GigE, USB, CameraLink, CoaXPress cameras, FPGAs, GPUs, lenses, optics, machine vision components, and vision solutions is a plus.
  • Familiarity with project management (PMP) and lean manufacturing (Six Sigma) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in using Windows operating systems (Linux and MacOS is a plus).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to learn recent technologies and continuously enhance skillsets.
